Pulp molding is not a new concept. It originated in China several thousand years ago when bamboo soaked in limewater was pounded into pulp for use in making paper, masks, kites, and models. The process remained unchanged until the 19th century when chemists and engineers developed ways of producing larger quantities of pulp at a consistent quality and a reasonable cost.
